Abstract

637,087. Photographic reflex cameras. ANGENIEUX, P. Aug. 16, 1946, No. 24383. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1943. [Class 98 (i)] A view-finder for photographic reflex cameras comprises, above the region where the image is formed, a reversing optical system formed of two superimposed prisms not cemented at their contact faces, the upper prism having mutually perpendicular reflecting faces forming a rooflike element with its apex edge convergent with the optical axis of the camera so as to reflect the rays issuing from the image towards the rear of the camera and the contact faces of the prisms being so inclined to the optical axis of the camera that the light rays issuing from the image and entering the optical system pass without total reflection through the contact faces into the roof-like element are reflected thereby towards the rear of the camera, are totally reflected at the lower face of the upper prism, and are directed into an eyepiece at the rear of the camera. As shown, the image is formed by the camera objective 2 and reflex mirror 3 on the ground flat face of a planoconvex lens 4. The light rays therefrom pass through a prism 12 and enter a superimposed prism 13, passing through the contact faces 15 without total reflection. The rays are reflected twice at orthogonal faces of prism 13 intersecting in the. ridge 14, are totally reflected at the contact face 15 and pass out of the system to an eye-piece 8 situated at the rear of the camera with its optical axis parallel or slightly inclined to that of the camera. Specification 637,080 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a view-finder in which (1) the prisms 12, 13 are replaced by a single prism in which the rays after reflection from roof-like faces are totally reflected at a face coplanar with or slightly inclined to the entry face, or (2) the rays enter a prism and are reflected by roof-like faces out of the prism into a second prism cemented thereto and are totally reflected at a face of the second prism into the eye-piece. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
