[Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] Thread is dried during manufacture by passage over heated thread advancing reels of the type having two interdigitating sets of bar members disposed in skew relation to each other, all said members being hollow to allow the passage of heating fluid. As shown, a reel comprises two cylindrical members 10, 11 the member 10 being mounted concentrically for rotation on the shaft 12 and being formed of longitudinal tubular bar members 17 supported in end supports 18, 19 which are frictionally bound to the shaft 12 through double seals 20, 21. A cap 23 drawn against the support 18 by a threaded bolt 24 in the end of the shaft 12 forces the seals 20, 21 into the end supports 18, 19 to fix the member 10 on to the shaft 12. The reel member 11 is formed of longitudinal tubular bars 28 which interdigitate with members 17 to form a unitary, cylindrical, thread advancing reel. A pair of tubular members 28 comprise one member having a 180 degrees bend at the unsupported end of the reel, and the members 28 are supported at one end in the sealing rings 27, 29 of a flange 31A and are reinforced at the other end by the ring 30. The rings 27, 29 are attached to flange 31A by bolts 32. Hub member 31 rotates on a pair of anti-friction bearings 33, 34 mounted on the circular eccentric member 35. The tubular members 17 have passages 41 for receiving heating fluid which is supplied through a shaft conduit 38 and openings 39 which communicate with radial passages 40 of the support 19. The fluid passes through the passages 41 and is exhausted through passages 42 in the support 18, through openings 43 into a central shaft exhaust passage 44. The bar members 28 have passages 46 for receiving heating fluid which is supplied through inlets 55 by way of chamber 54 between the member 35 and the shaft 12, passage 52, chamber 51, radial conduits 50 and chamber 45. The heating fluid passes through passages 46 and is exhausted through chamber 47 into radial conduit 57, chambers 58, passages 59 and chamber 60 to exhaust openings 61 in the shaft 12.
