Abstract

636,806. Seats. BRITISH OVERSEAS AIRWAYS CORPORATION, and FINNIMORE, J. R. May 4, 1948, No. 12274. [Class 52 (ii)] In an adjustable chair as described in Specification 447,327 the inclined runways 9 are each provided with a toothed rack 48 and each of the runners 11 by which the rear of the seat is supported carries a lock engageable with the toothed rack the lock being operable by the lever handle through a cable &c. 64. As shown each runway 9 is provided at the inner side with a rack 48 and is embraced by a runner 11 which is provided with a boss to which is secured a housing 49 having a locking plunger 51 the inner end of which is formed as a tooth 52 to engage the rack 48. The plunger 51 which is spring-pressed has slidable within it a locking pin 54 having a conical shoulder 56 which, in the engaged position of the plunger 51, forces balls 57 outwardly into grooves 58 and so prevents accidental withdrawal of the plunger. The locking pin 54 is withdrawable by means of the cable 63 of a Bowden cable 64 and at the end of its stroke permits the balls 57 to leave the grooves 58 and also to withdraw the plunger 51 by means of a grub screw 59 operating in a slot 61. The Bowden cable 64 is, at the other end, fixed to a slide operated by squeezing the two-part handle of the lever 27.
