636,735. Combing-machines. NOUVELLE SOC. DE CONSTRUCTION CI-DEVANT N. SCHLUMBERGER & CIE SOC. ANON. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25860. Convention date, July 27, 1945. [Class 120 (i)] A textile combing machine of the rectilinear type comprises a combing cylinder 5, upper and lower nipper jaws, 3, 1 having a common pivot 4 about which they are rocked through first and second mechanisms respectively from common driving means, the upper jaw being yieldably, and the lower jaw positively, driven. The common driving means comprises a cam 8 rotating synchronously with the cylinder 5 and engaged by a follower 10 carried by a lever 9 attached to a lever 13 pivoted at 11. Rocking motion of the lower jaw 1 is, imparted from the cam through lever 9 and a link 12. The mechanism for rocking the upper jaws from the cam comprises the levers 9 and 13 and a link 14 one end of which, connected to a spring 15 located between the arms of lever 13, may slide in a guide slot 16 in lever 13. In the event of overthickness of the lap the upper jaw will be raised against the pressure of the spring 15 the tension of which may be adjusted by a nut 17. The end portion la of the lower jaw is widened so that in the event of a break in the mechanism it will bear upon sectors 7 at each side of the cylinder 15. The sectors 7 may be used for guiding a dabbing device.
