Abstract
650,761. Stapling. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd. Sept. 25, 1946, No. 28693. [Class 89(iii)] In a wire feed for a stapling machine in which the wire D is held against retrograde movement during the return motion of a feed gripper 19 by a non-return gripper 10, the timing of the operation of the grippers is such that either is always closed before the other is opened. The spring-pressed gripper 10 is carried by a vertical slide 6 controlled by a roll 7 engaging a cam 3. The gripper 19 is carried by a lever 20 pivoted on a lever 12 to which a feed motion is imparted by a cam 4 and is opened against a spring 22 by a screw 28 on a link 26 pivoted to a lever 24 which is rocked by engagement of its tail 24a with a striker plate 8 on the slide 6. In a machine provided with two wires D to form two rows of staples. the feed of either wire is stopped by rocking a horizontal lever to bring an incline 31 thereon under an arm 24b of one of two levers 24 thereby holding the feed gripper 19 open and the non-return gripper 10 closed by engagement of an arm 24c with a stem 11 thereon.
