Abstract

636,483. Luminescent screens for discharge tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 16, 1947, No. 10105. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent screen for an electric discharge tube comprises one substance which emits ultra-violet rays upon electron bombardment and another substance which becomes luminous when energized by said ultra-violet rays. The substances may be admixed or in separate 'layers. The first substance may be calcium oxide activated with manganese, iron, copper, zinc, silver or bismuth ; or calcium phosphate activated with cerium ; or zinc silicate activated with titanium. The second substance may be zinc sulphide activated with copper or manganese or zinc cadmium sulphide activated with manganese. Several substances of each type may be mixed together. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 582,444.
