Abstract
635,691. Plate heat-exchangers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Aug. 26, 1946, No 25473. Convention date, Aug. 29, 1945. [Class 64(iii)] In a heat exchanger in which a liquid or gaseous medium flows through a slit-shaped channel or parallel slit-shaped channels, and the wall surfaces of the channels are provided with equidistant parallel grooves 2 which form an acute angle with the flow path of the heating or cooling medium and cross one another on opposing wall surfaces, the said wall surfaces are spaced apart by a distance at least 1/5 of the depth of the grooves and not more than 10 times, preferably not more than 5 times the depth of the grooves. On at least one of the opposing wall surfaces further parallel grooves 4 which form a smaller angle than grooves 2 with the direction of flow may be provided the spacing of which is at least 3 times and the crosssectional area at least 1¢ times that of grooves 2. Where grooves 4 are provided on opposing surfaces they are arranged opposite one another. The section of the smaller grooves may have an asymmetric profile which is preferably such that the fluid medium first strikes the steeper wall of each groove. The grooves 2 may lie at an angle of 15 degrees to 75 degrees to the direction of flow.
