[Class 106(v)] A sampling tube 2 for taking samples of a liquid from a vessel 1 to which the liquid to be tested is supplied under the influence of a vacuum is characterised by the fact that the sampling tube 2 is provided with an inlet 4 for the liquid at its one end and with an outlet 41 for air at its other end as well as with spherical or like valve members 5, 51, Figs. 1, 2 or with diaphragms 13, Fig. 4, for controlling said inlet and outlet under the action of the difference between the pressures inside and outside the tube and for automatically closing said inlet and outlet when the pressure outside the tube becomes higher than the pressure inside the tube, thereby allowing the tube when placed in a vertical position in said vessel to be automatically filled with liquid according as the liquid rises in the vessel and to be automatically sealed with its contents as soon as the supply of liquid to the vessel ceases by removing the vaccum therefrom. A transparent auxiliary observation tube 10, Fig. 2, may communicate with the main tube 2.
