621,879. Stuffing-boxes. DETREZ, R. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25715. Convention date, April 19, 1944. [Class 122(v)] A vessel 1 containing liquid is connected to source of vacuum by pipe 3 and by a pipe 5 to a pump cylinder 6 provided at one end with a delivery valve 14. A space 9 at the other end of the pump cylinder is connected by a pipe 10 to the top of the vessel 1 or the source of vacuum and also to a draining tank 11 fitted with a cock 20. The pump piston 7 has a rod that passes through the space 9 and is provided with a stuffing box 13. Instead of being under vacuum, the vessel may be filled with an atmosphere from which air is excluded.
