Abstract

811,896. Reciprocating pumps. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Dec. 20, 1957 [Jan. 28, 1957], No. 2970/57. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XVIII] In a pump for pumping volatile liquids boiling below 0‹C. of the type in which liquid is fed to the pump cylinder through ports controlled by the piston travel and that part of the cylinder is immersed in the liquid contained in a reservoir, the flow of liquid to the reservoir is controlled to maintain a substantially constant level and a free gas space by a valve 27 which is controlled by a float 20 to vent the gas from the free gas space and so permit the inflow of liquid. The vented gas may pass to atmosphere or back to the main storage vessel. The float may be located in the reservoir or in a vessel connected to the reservoir with respect to both liquid and gas phases. The main storage vessel may be under pressure.
