Abstract

870,856. Hydraulically actuated diaphragm pumps. WIGGERMANN, G., and REINERS, W. July 16, 1957 [July 18, 1956], No. 22497/57. Class 102(1). In a hydraulically actuated diaphragm pump, the pumping chamber 20 is separated from the working liquid by at least two diaphragms forming a chamber filled with liquid ; as shown two chambers 18, 19 are so formed and each is provided with upper and lower sight glasses 23, 24 and 21, 22 and the liquid filling each chamber has properties such that the presence of other liquid i.e. the pumped liquid or liquid from another diaphragm chamber can be seen. It may be arranged that the presence of the pumped liquid causes the liquid in chamber 19 to change colour. The sight glasses are provided with cocks for filling the diaphragm chambers and the pump is provided with a calibrated filling vessel 28 for the diaphragm chambers. Access to the diaphragms to bring them into an end position is provided by an opening having a removable cover plate 29.
