Abstract

An ice pack comprises a flexible container filled with an aqueous solution of glycol or glycol ether. The container may be made of thin rubber and may be completely sealed. No internal ribs or divisions are necessary since by using a solution containing between 3 and 15 per cent of glycol, freezing within the range of about 0 DEG F to 27 DEG F produces a broken mass of discrete ice crystals and the bag can readily be made to fit the shape of the body. If desired, a filling means can be fitted so as to lie flush with the outer surface of the bag and consisting of a rubber neck having a narrow orifice normally closed by compression with a spring ring. For filling, a narrow bore tube is thrust into the neck so as to hold the orifice open.
