Abstract

Liquid chemical substances are packaged by introducing an accurately measured quantity of the liquid into an ampoule made of paraffin wax and having a reduced neck, the diameter (e.g. about 9 1/2 mm. internal diameter) of which is less than that of the body of the ampoule yet sufficiently large to permit quantitative discharge of the contents, and sealing the ampoule with paraffin wax. To prepare a standard solution from a liquid concentrate contained in the ampoule, the latter is punctured, e.g. by the application of heat, the contents transferred to a volumetric flask and diluted to the required normality. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a container, for holding an accurately measured quantity of a substance that does not react with glass, comprising a hollow body of glass or similar material and a continuing neck which may be externally screw-threaded, and a closure adapted to be punctured. The closure may be constructed of a wax disc located on and covering the open end of the neck, after which a slightly warmed cap, internally screw-threaded and preferably having a circular hole in its end wall, is screwed upon the threaded neck. Rubber rings or other sealing material may additionally be used. After cooling an additional layer or coating of wax may be applied to wholly or partly fill the hole in the cap. In addition, the wax layer or coating may exteriorly cover the cap and extend beyond over the contiguous surface of the neck. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
