Abstract

635,049. Centrifugal pumps. RHODES, BRYDON & YOUATT, Ltd., and YOUATT, N. March 24, 1948, Nos. 8625 and 23436. [Class 110(i)] In a circumferentialflow pump of the kind comprising a rotor having radial or curved blades rotating between suction and delivery plates, the delivery plate having a channel a which terminates in a discharge port c, a supplementary portion is formed towards the end of the main portion of the channel without changing substantially the total cross-sectional area. The supplementary portion, which may extend over one-third of the length of the channel, becomes narrower and shallower and curves inwards towards a port d, through which air is discharged adjacent the roots of the rotor blades for priming purposes. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the supplementary portion takes the form of a ledge b. In a modification, a division wall is formed between the main and supplementary portions. The Specification refers to a liquid-ring self-priming pump having a rotor rotating between suction and delivery plates, and provided upon the delivery plate with a channel which at the discharge end turns inwards towards the axis of rotation and decreases in depth and width so as to expel air through a discharge port in the delivery plate arranged towards the roots of the rotor blades.
