Abstract

A compound of the formula <FORM:0633748/IV (b)/1> is obtained by reacting b -ionylidene ethanol with an aluminium or magnesium alkoxide, e.g. aluminium butoxide or isopropoxide or magnesium butoxide, in the presence of acetone. The reaction is preferably carried out using a large excess of acetone, e.g. 10-15 mole. excess. Detailed examples are given.
