[Class 141] A stiffener for the front edge of a shirt collar comprises an elongated rigid section which is hollow at least at one end, and flexible means extending from the hollow end or ends supporting a section of discreet rigid members. As shown in Fig. 2, the rigid section 15 is of flattened tubular form and the discrete rigid members are ring-like and clamped to a flexible strip, preferably of stranded fabric, which passes through the sections 15, 16, the ends 17, 18 projecting therefrom. The members 20 have their adjacent edges on the underside cut out so that the section 16 can bend in one direction only, thus enabling the upper end of the collar edge to curve over the tie knot. In a modification, the extensions 17, 18 may be formed as two independent strips. In a further construction, Fig. 5, the flexible strip 25 is secured to a clamping band 27 formed integral with the body 26, which is a thin flat length of material, e.g. steel, and passes through ring-like members 28. The stiffener may be permanently incorporated in the collar seam or may be removable.
