Abstract
603,991. Neckties. SHEPHERD, L. L, Nov. 20, 1945, No. 31161. [Class 141] A necktie is provided with a permanent. longitudinal fold in the region of the knot. As shown, in Fig. 2, the tie is folded longitudinally and stitched on the underside at 3. It is then opened out, Fig. 4, the fold being flattened into the form of a box pleat, the part 5 of which will extend below the knot in wear, and secured by transverse stitching 4. The construction may be applied to bow ties, a fold being made in each of the widened end portions. In a modification the material is woven thicker where the fold is to be formed by an ironing process during manufacture. In another modification, an insert of thin metal, celluloid or buckram is provided to retain the fold in position. U.S.A. Specification 1,990,167 is referred to.
