PHILIP BRASLOWSKY, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
ONE-PIECE COAT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patent d D 14 1920 Application filed December 18, 1919. .Serial No. 345,800.
To aZ whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, PHILIP BRASLOWSK Y, a citizen of Russia, residlng at New York, in
- the county of Bronx and State of New York,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in One-Piece Coats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification. 1.
This invention relates to .one-plece coats, and has for its object to provide an improved pattern for cutting a coat from a slngle piece of material so that a minimum amount of material is required and a coat is produced which will be neatly fashioned, well fitting and without exposed seams which would be apt to allow moisture to penetrate, for this pattern is especially designed for raincoats.
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this 7 specification, and then more specifically defined in the claims at the end of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a plan view of apiece of material out according to my improved pattern.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the coat as it appears when the same is made up.
Fig, 3 is a rear view of the completed coat, and
Fig. at is a detailed fragmentary view of the inner face of one of the'lower corners of the coat.
In accordance with my improved pattern, the material is cut as shown in Fig. 1 so as to comprise a body portion 1, sleeve portlons 2, breast portions 3 arranged above the sleeve portions, and pocket flaps llfashioned from the sleeve portions. A neck opening 4 is provided between the sleeve portions 2 and breast portions 3. r
The body portion'l has straight upper edged portions 5 and curved edged portions 6 extending from'the straight edges 5 to the sleeve portions'2. The upper parts of the lateral edges of the body portion are cut away, as at 7 to correspond to the edges 8 of the breast portions 3. The sleeve portions 2 have cut-out portions extending longitudinally thereof for reducing the fullness of the sleeves when the coat is made up.
These cut-out portions 9 do not extend the full length of the sleeve portions but terminate short of the cuff ends thereof. At the other ends of. the cut-out portions 9, curved edges 12 are formed tocorrespond with the curved edges 6 of the body portion of the coat. Opposite said curved edges 12 the pocket flaps 11.,are formed from the Ina-M.
terial left by cuttingsaid curved'edges.
V In making up the coat, "the lateral edge portions of the body 1 are folded inward toward each other, and the upper parts of the sleeve portions together with the breast portions 3 are folded down to bring said breast portions into position for their curved edges 8 to be secured to'the curved edges 7 of the body portion. The oppositeedges of the cut-outs 9 are secured together as shown in Fig. 2, and the curved edges 12 are secured to the curved edges 6 under the arms as shown 1n Fig. 3. The straight edges 5 are lapped by the pocket flap carrying edges 10, as shown in Fig. 2, said pocket flaps 11 being arranged as also shown in this figure. The lower edges 13 are secured to the upper edges 14of the sleeve portions as shown in very slightly beyond the lateral edges of the body portion, and the breast portions 3 extend only slightly above the sleeve portions. The shoulders of the coat are entirely free from seams, and such seams as are necessary are located where moisture will not be apt to collect and penetrate. The provision of the breast portions 3 eliminates the necessity of making seams extending entirely across the front of the coat at the line of the pocket flaps 11, and gives the garment a neater appearance as well as increases its wearing qualities.
The breast portions 3 have lateral extensions 30 adapted to supplement lateral'extensions 31 on the bottom of the body por-.
tion. to form the facings or flies as shown more clearly in Fig. 4. It will be understood that in making up the coat the extensions 30 and 31 are folded on their adjacent portions 3 and 1, respectively, along the.
that said trimmings do not constitute any part of this'invention and may, therefore,
I be changed atwill Without departing from the invention. 7 Having thus described my inventionflvhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentof the United States is 1. A coat comprisingin-a single piece the.
.2. cgatecomprising; in a single. piece thebody portion; and sleeve portions, the latterhavingcuti-outsi extending) longitudinally thereof? and! terminating short; of the cufi' ends thereof for the purpose specified, and integral pocket flaps formed out of material left cutting the sleeve portions.
3. A coat comprising ina single piece the body portion and sleeve portion the latter 7 having cut-outs extending longitudinally thereof and terminating short'rofthe cufi ends-thereof; curvededges extending from the other extremities of said cut-outs and designed to fit under the, arms, and pocket flaps formed out ofinaterial leftzby cutting the sleeve: 'portcions. opposite said curved: edges and v adjacent/the longitudinal cut? outs. e
V In testimony Whereof-I'have signed my name-to illlSzSDGCifiCtttlOIl.
