Im rovements in Convertible Trousers, of-

which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to convertible trousers and more particularly pertains to so called long or slack trousers which may be readily converted into bloomers or so called knickerbockers.

It is well known that convertible trousers of the above mentionedV type have been previously proposed but they have usually taken the formi of trousers having detachable lower leg sections or the lower portion of the trousers have been folded or otherwise concealed while the trousers are worn as bloomers. In these types of garments neither a true bloomer or knicker pants has been provided, because of the lack of fullness in the leg portions as well as across the hi s, or where such bloomers has been provided the `pants have not had their proper shape when worn as long or slack trousers. ,Y

The object of the present invention is the provision of long or slack trousers, which may be worn as such until the wearer desires to convert them into bloomerslor knickers, the trousers being so constructed that while they are used as long or slack trousers they have the proper shape and measurements as such, and when converted into bloomer trousers they have in all respects the additional fullness required.

A further object of the invention is' to provide atrouser as justv mentioned having relatively wide turned in side seams, the seams having spaced stitching so that the pants produce one style and by ripping one line of stitching additional fullness is ob'- tained and a dierent style may be provided.

With these and other objects in view the invention resides in sundry details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter appear.

In this specification and the annexed drawings, the invention is `disclosed in the form in which it is considered to be the best, but the invention is not limited to such form because it is capable of being embodied in other forms; and it is to be understood that by and' in the claims following the description herein, it is intended to cover the invention in whatever form it may embody within the scope thereof.

In the drawings which show the preferred embodiment of the invention as at present advised,

Figure 2 shows the trousers, as shown in Figure 1, turned inside out and with their lower leg portions severed preparatory to converting the trousers into bloomers or knickers;

The trousers illustrated in Figure 1 are constructed generally in the usual manner having a waist portion A and leg portion B and C. The leg portions being provided with the inner and outer Side seams 10and 11 as usual. The pants may or may not be lined, but since it is customary to line trouser bloomers or knickers, the drawings illustrate a lining 12 extending fromthe waist to a point 13 below the knee of the trousers.

The invention resides particularly, in cutting the front and rear leg sections, (as well as their corresponding lining sections,- when lining is used), according to the full bloomer pattern as clearly illustrated in Figure 2,

so that'a portion of the trousers above the knee, at least, will have sucient material to provide full bloomers or knickerbockers.

In the assemblage of the garment, however, the side seam portions, of thel garment sections are each provided with a double row of spaced stitching 14 and l5, the inner row -or line of stitching 14 ex tending the full length of the leg sections while the outer row or line of stitching 15 may, and preferably does, terminate appi'oximatel at the point 13 below the knee portion. he inner rows of stitching 14 are made on a line corres onding to the pattern and design of long or slack trousers, vwhile the outer rows of stitching 15 are made on a line corresponding to the pattern or design of full bloomer trousers. Thus .it will be seen that the trousers produced in accordance with this invention may be worn as slacks until it is desired to convert the same into bloomer trousers, at which time it is only necessary to cut or sever the lower leg portions on a line substantially corresponding with the line 13, Figure 1, and to rip the inner rows of stitching 14 at both the inner and outer side seams l0 and 11.

There is provided with each pair of trousers of this invention, two leo' bands which may be applied to the lower leg portions when converted into bloomers. These leg bands are shown in Figures 3 and 4, land comprise an elongated strip 16 of facing material, such as the cloth of the suiting and a lining 17. The lining is stitched to the facing around its marginal edges by a row of stitching 18 except for the upper edge of the band, as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, in which is inserted the lower end portions 13a of the bloomers, see Fi ure 2.

The lower edge portions 13a-of the loom ers are suitablyA gathered when the bands 16 are applied and for convenience suitable means may be provided at the lower edges 13 to indicate where theplaits or gathers are to be taken, such as by notches 13b in the lower edge on the lining 12.

The usual vent alon the lower portion of the outer seam of 1:bloomer trousers is provided for by finishing olf for a distance the edges of the front and rear leg sections at their outer side seams at a point immediately above the line 13, as particularly shown at 19 and 20, of Figures 6 and 7, respectively. 1. A pair of trousers composed of sections of material joined together, the sections of the leg portions being cut on a pattern tok allow considerable fullness therein, said leg sections being joined together 1ongitudinally by a line of stitching outlining said fullness, and a second line of stitching along said seams and spaced from said first line of stitching to provide a trouser of less fullness, whereby upon removal of the second lines of stitching greater fullness may be obtained.

2. 'A pair of trousers as set forth in claim l further characterized by means indicating where said leg sections may be severed transversely for providing bloomer trousers when said second line of stitching is removed.

As a new article of manufacture, a pair of long trousers convertible into bloomer trousers, said trousers including leg sections, means securing said sections together including double rows of spaced stitching joining said sections together and extending from an .upper ortion of the trousers to a point about the nee portions thereof, one row of said stitching being removable to allow Agreater fullness in the garment when converted into bloomer trousers, said\ leg sections being adapted to be severed Vtransversely ybelow the knee portion when converting the garment into bloomer trousers, and leo bands, one attachable to each severed end of said leg ortions.

As a new article of manufacture, a garment as set forth in claim 3, further characterized by said seam of each leg portion having its edge finished off at a point adjacent the knee portion and above a point where said leg portions are severed to provide a vent about the knee portion of bloomer trousers, when said stitching opposite said finished edge portion o'f,the seam is broken or removed.

5. As a new article of manufacture, a Eair of long trousers convertible into loomer trousers, said trousers including leg portions having the sections thereof cut acatterii, a Idouble row of spaced stitcliing.]oining the inner and outer seams of the leg sections together, one row of stitching following the.bloomer outline and terminating at a point about the knee portion of the leg sections, the other rows of stitching following the pattern of long pants having less fullness than the bloomer pattern, said leg portions being adapted to be severed transversely below the kiiee ortion when converting the garment into bloomer trousers and the row of stitch- -ing following the long trouser design being removed, and means attachable to the severed end of each leg portion for cornpleting the bloomer trousers.
