Abstract

633,574. Digging root-crops. SMITH, T. S. July 28, 1947, No. 20309. [Class 6(iii)] A root-crop harvester, incorporating a tractor 12 from which the wheels have been removed, comprises a main frame 1 which carries a digging appliance, the main frame having front and rear axles 19 and 20 which can be connected to the driving and steering mechanism respectively of the tractor. The main frame includes an extension 9a, 10, 11, the member 9a being bolted to the front of the tractor chassis and the rear tractor axle being secured to brackets 14. An axle 22 forms an extension of the axle 17, and both axles carry sprockets for chain drives 21 to the front wheels 18 of the main frame. The steering mechanism of the tractor is coupled to the steerable rear wheels of the frame. The arrangement is shown applied to a harvester of the type described in Specification 633,573.
