Abstract

633,243. Collectors. HOLLANDER, J. M. Feb. 5, 1948, No. 3346. [Class 38 (i)] In a system for supplying electrical power to movable apparatus wherein a wander lead from the apparatus passes through a longitudinal slot 19 in a support to spring contacts 22a, 23a, 24a on a collector shoe 33, the support comprising two U-shaped members 11, 12, arranged facing each other and the member 11 carrying conductive rails 22, 23, 24 on insulating blocks 25 with which the spring contacts on the shoe coact, an insulating strip 46 is placed between the rail 24 and the slot 19 to mask said rail. The sides 34, 35 of the shoe carry pairs of grooved rollers 29, 30 which run on the rolled edges 28 of an earth plate 27 held captive between the blocks 25 and the member 11, thereby holding the shoe in position. Alternatively the guide rails may be L-shaped and mounted on the blocks 25, flat rollers engaging the faces thereof farthest from the shoe, Fig. 4 (not shown). Further pairs of rollers may engage opposite sides of at least one of the conductive rails to prevent slewing of the shoe in this case. The support may be formed in convenient lengths to facilitate installation. Specification 623,976 is referred to.
