[Class 64(iii)] In a heat exchanger having thin-walled fluid carrying tubes extending between tanks formed of dished sheet metal cover plates with their associated tube plates and provided with thin metal secondary heattransfer surfaces forming passages through which air or other cooling medium flows, the cover plate of each tank is formed with at least one integral ducting plate arranged to preserve the continuity of ducting in which the heat exchanger is mounted. In Fig. 2 ducting plates 7a and bolting flanges 5a, 6a for fixing together individual units are formed integrally with the tank cover plates 1a, 2a and are swaged at 11, 12, 13 to facilitate soldering to the respective tube plates 14, 15. Each ducting plate 7a has a flange 8a which co-operates with the abutment flange 9 on the ducting 10, packing (not shown) being interposed to form a fluid tight seal. In apparatus embodying only a single unit, no bolting flanges are required. Fig. 8 shows three units A, B, C incorporated as a single structure within the ducting 10, without the use of bolting flanges. The tube plates 44, 45 are common to all three units and the tank cover plates 46, 47 are each a single pressing and are formed with two additional swages 48 for bonding to the respective tube plates in order to segregate the tubes of different units. Beyond the end swages 49 each cover plate is extended to form integral ducting plates 50. In Fig. 11, the swaged tank cover is formed with a relatively deep flange 57 and the integral ducting plate 58 bears upon a rubber pad 59 interposed between it and the part 60 which may be either the ducting proper or the integral ducting plate of an adjacent unit.
