[Class 42 (ii)] Rollers, pulleys, sheaves and the like of the kind adapted to carry ropes, belts or the like are provided with one or more detachable or replaceable annular sleeves, or other formations of resilient shock-absorbing material which extend around the rope-carrying parts, present a continuous resilient surface on the exterior without interruption by rigid parts and take the wear, the roller having end flanges which are adjustable axially of the roller, between which the sleeve or sleeves is or are held. The sleeves may be made of rubber, or synthetic plastic, and may be laminated they may be held in position by compression, inter-engaging projections, or adhesives. A pulley, Fig. 1, may comprise male and female portions 10, 11 secured together by studs 12, and having conical flanges 10a, 11a having lips 10c, 11c and steps 10d, 11d, for securing and compressing the rubber sleeves 13, 13a, 13b between them. The sleeve 13 may have an inner part 13c of relatively soft rubber, and an inner space 13d is left between the latter and the body of the pulley. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the detachable flange 19 is provided with a spigot 20 having projections 20a which are adapted to pass slots in the end flange 17a of the body of the pulley and be retained by turning. The screw 21 has a flat 22 permitting the turning of the flange 19, after which a partial rotation of the screw causes its circular portion to engage in a recess in the flange 19 to lock the latter. A sleeve of shock-absorbing material is slid over the body of the pulley before the end-plate is attached, and is prevented from rotation by keys or circumferential tension.
