Abstract

633,110. Fireguards. TURNBULL, F. April 23, 1947, No. 10888. [Class 126] A guard for fires employing radiating heating elements consists of a sheet M of heat-transmitting, non-inflammable material, e.g. mica, in a metal frame, and having means for attaching the guard to a heating element. Metal strips S, S", E', E" compose the frame, the end strips E', E" having metal lugs L', L" respectively, adapted to be bent at right angles to the sheet M. To each of these metal lugs L', L" is attached a mica lug LM', LM", each having a notch N by means of which the guard is secured to a screw which holds the heating element in place. The guard may be used with a flat, or with a rodlike heating element, in the latter case the mica M and end strips E' E" being curved about the mica lugs LM', LM". In a modification the mica lugs LM', LM" are dispensed with, and replaced by metal lugs of the same shape attached to the end strips of the frame. These lugs may be faced with mica. Further, the end strips E', E" may carry end clips which embrace the ends of the heating element, and which may be additional to the lugs LM', LM".
