875,025. Measuring temperature electrically. BRITISH COTTON INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. March 30, 1960 [April 1, 1959], No. 10958/59. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XXXVI] The Figures shows a device for measuring the surface temperature of a rotating cylinder. A handle 11 has attached to it a leaf spring 13. Brackets 14 at opposite ends of the spring and insulated from it by mica 15 carry fins 16 on which are supported a flexible thermocouple strip 17 and polytetrafluoroethylene strips 19a, 19b. The pins also carry current from the thermocouple to the external circuit. Strip 19b acts as a low-friction rubbing strip allowing the flexible thermocouple to conform to the shape of the hot surface. This strip may be replaced by one of polytetrafluoroethylene-coated glass fabric although the thermocouple itself may be coated with polytetrafluorethylene. Strip 19a acts as a heat insulator and may be omitted.
