[Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Gas is circulated in pipes through three electrically heated zones which are each maintained at a different temperature. Three groups of grid type elements A, B, C, delta connected to a 3-phase supply and mounted opposite each other on the wall of furnace 10 (not shown) heat by direct radiation a gas which is passed through pipes 151-156. The temperature of each group is individually adjusted by saturable reactors 20, 25, 30 which are controlled by rheostats 40, 45, 50. The overall furnace temperature is controlled by an automatic regulator 80 (see Group XXXV). U.S.A. Specifications 1,946,707, 1,975,663 and 2,232,705 are referred to.
