Class 51(2) [Also in Group XIII] A tunnel oven for heat treating, japanning, &c., flat workpieces comprises a table 1 formed with slots 2 in which are chains 3 driven from a motor 4 through variable-speed gear 5 and reduction gearing 6, one or more casings 8 each housing an infra-red panel heater, and a preheater casing 12 housing a pyrometer 15. The chains 3 may carry the workpieces or may be formed with projections engaging them. The panel heater may be gas-fired, adjustably controlled by a governor 10, or may be electrically heated. The preheater may be heated from the casing 8 or may be independently heated.
