Abstract

632,491. Gear-wheel pumps. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE GENERALE DE MECANIQUE APPLIQUEE (S.I.G.M.A.). Dec. 30, 1947, No. 34737. Convention date, April 18, 1945. [Class 110(ii)] In a gear pump which may be used for handling solutions of artificial fibres and comprising superposed plates secured to a pump support, the adjoining surfaces of the body and support being provided with registering inlet and outflow orifices, 8, 9, 10 and 11, the surface of the support 5 is provided with a raised or projecting portion 5a for contacting the pump in order to limit the area of contact between this surface and the adjoining face of the pump body. The fixing screws 13 are located within the raised portion. The pump comprises a middle plate 2 in which the gears are housed, and two closure plates 1 and 3, the three plates being clamped together by means of screws 12 to form the pump body. The thickness of the closure plate 3 is greater than that of the plate 1 for the purpose of preventing leakage through the hole for the driving shaft 6, and eliminating the use of stuffing boxes or gaskets. The driving shaft 18 and the pump shaft 6 are formed with projections engaging grooves in a coupling element 15 which is freely rotatable in the cage 16 and is retained in an axial direction by the cover 17. The two grooves in this element are arranged at right angles to each other.
