Abstract

632,268. Clearing apparatus for carding. engines. PHILIPSON & CO. (BOLTON), Ltd., LEACH, F., and GREENHALGH, F. Sept. 9, 1947, No. 24709. [Class 120 (i)] A clearer assembly for cleaning the stripping brush for the flats of a carding engine, in which the clearer is secured in a channel shaped member at each end, each channel shaped member is pivotedly mounted on a member of angle shape which is carried by a bracket rotatably mounted on the shaft of the stripping brush and which is influenced by springs to hold the clearer out of contact with the brush during normal working conditions. In the embodiment shown, the clearer B is secured at the ends in channel shaped members E which are pivotedly mounted on angle members A<SP>1</SP>. Members A<SP>1</SP> have rods a<SP>4</SP> slidable in passages a<SP>3</SP> of brackets A which are mounted on the ends of the shaft c of the stripping brush. A coiled spring a<SP>5</SP> is arranged between the member A<SP>1</SP> and the bracket A. The movement of the member A<SP>1</SP> relative to the bracket A is limited by a pin a<SP>6</SP> which projects from the rod a4 through a slot a<SP>7</SP> in the bracket A. Fig. 1 shows the two positions of the clearer; Position 1 being the normal position when the dearer is not in use and in which the clearer can be swung out of the member A<SP>1</SP> 'and cleaned and Position 2 into which the clearer is swung for stripping the brush C.
