A device which is drawn by a rod 14 through a duct 10 is provided with a number of independently movable, segmental members 35 of helical form having the same direction of pitch and carrying outwardly-projecting resilient scraping fingers 36, 37 the members extending substantially parallel to the inner surface of the duct and being arranged to move toward and away from the axis of the duct so that variations in the diameter of the latter are accommodated ; also, the members are resiliently urged outwardly, and the rearward part of each member is disposed behind the forward part of an adjacent member to avoid interference between the members during the inward and outward movements thereof. As shown in Fig. 3, the fingers 36, 37 include a torsion spring portion 38, have bent ends inserted into holes 42 in the members 35, and are secured to the latter in staggered rows by clamping strips 39. Each member 35 is supported on a parallelogram linkage comprising a link 23 adjustable in length and formed by a rod 23b screwed into a sleeve 23a pivoted on a bracket 17 attached to a plate 12, a compression spring 28 being disposed between the flange 23c of the sleeve 23a and a collar 27 slidable on the rod 23b, and a link 19 pivoted to the bracket 17 and to a link 29 connected by a pin 31 to a bifurcated portion 23d of the rod 23b. The link 29 carries the member 35. A yoke 32 fixed to the link 19 has parallel arms provided with inwardly-directed pins 33 embraced by the flanges of the collar 27 on which the spring 28 presses to produce a turning movement urging the link 19 in a clockwise direction as seen in Fig. 3, and the link 29 radially outward with respect to the longitudinal axis of the duct 10. The midpoints of the members 35 lie in a common plane perpendicular to the axis of the duct.
