[Class 137] [Also in Group XI] A method o f radiantly heating a room comprises the steps of passing air over a heat radiating element, e.g. of an electric or gas fire which is exposed to heat the room by radiation, effecting humidification of the air and removing dust particles from the air after it has passed over the heat radiating element and before it is discharged into the room. An electric radiator embodying the invention comprises an outer casing 10 carrying a heating element 11 having a rear reflector 14 formed with a slot-like opening 15 which communicates with the interior of a combined filtering and humidifying chamber 16. Air is drawn into the chamber 16 over the heating element by a fan 39 situated in the lower part of the casing passing through a filter comprising a pad of absorbent material (e.g. of felt or cotton wool) 20 which is moistened by water circulated from a reservoir situated below the filter 20 by a pump 29 driven by the fan-motor, conditioned air being discharged into the room through a grill 41.
