Abstract

576,823. Hair-drying apparatus. LEACH, C., and DOWSING CO. (ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURERS), Ltd. July 5, 1939, No. 19550. [Class 81 (ii)] Hair-drying apparatus comprises one or more hoods, each having inlet and outlet openings for the drying air, a container for dehydrating means for the air, and means for causing air to flow through the container into the hood and to disperse freely through the outlets. The apparatus shown comprises a helmet 1 attached to a bracket 2 adjustably mounted in column 3. A motor driven blower is enclosed in the base of the column to force air through chamber 7 accommodating a perforated block of calcium chloride, silica gel, or material impregnated with, for example, powdered calcium chloride supported in a wire cage. The block may incorporate a substance changing colour when the block is saturated with moisture. Alternatively a separate tell-tale element may be mounted in the wire cage. The chamber 7 is connected with the hood by a flexible tube 5 formed with a bayonet-joint coupling 11, the air being delivered to the space between the hemispherical walls 13, 14 of the hood, and passing over heating elements 18 before being directed over the hair by the re-entrant edge 17 of the wall 13. The air escapes through vents 19, and may be collected for discharge to the exterior of the room &c. The apparatus may incorporate means for regenerating the block by heat. Thermostatic regulating means for the heating elements 18 may be provided. The dehydrating medium may be disposed within the helmet, and it may consist of a cooled coil for condensing the moisture in the drying air.
