Application Marchl, 1934, Serial No. 713,586 In Canada Aug-usti30, .1933
v6 Claims.
This invention relates to hair'driers for use in drying a persons .hair in beauty parlours and thelike.
Themain object of the invention is to .provide a .compact assembly of thischaracter which will provide for the efficient drying of. hair and .which will avoid the disadvantage .ofhaving the hot air current blown.down.ov.er the head andface of the personbeing treated.
Afurther object of the invention is to arrange for the removal of the warm air from the head area of the person being treated .by simple and convenient means co-operating with .the air impelling means of the drier.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of .this character which can be manufactured 'at a .comparatively low figure.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists essentially of a casing enclosing a heating element and air impeller, the casing carrying a head piece or helmet, designed to fit over the head of the person being treated and communicating with the interior of the casing so that air may be impelled from the easing into the head piece and into contact with the hair. Along with this construction is provided an air withdrawing channel which is built on the casing and communicates with the top of thehead piece, the .channel communicating withthe. fan end of the casing, and thereby under. the influence of the airimpeller so that air impelled into the head piece, after contact with the hair, is withdrawn under .the force .ofthe one impeller, asmore fully described .inthefollowing specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms part of the same.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the hair drier.
Figure 2 is a rear end View of Fig. l, and
Figure 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the casing and related parts in section.
Referring-more particularly to the drawing, A indicates the hair drying apparatus as a whole which comprises a casing l0 mounted upon a suitable base II. The casing Ii! forms a general air passageway l2 and houses the fan l3 and resistance heating elements M which are positioned in advance of the fan. The fan motor and resistance elements are connected in suitable electrical circuit so that, when closed, the fan will operate and the resistance elements will be heated whereby the current of air impelled by the fan within the passageway l2 will pass by the. resistance elements to cause the air to be heated.
The aircurrent isimpelled toward the forward end of thecasing which has mounted thereon in any. suitable manner a head piece 55. This head piece is perforated or orificed as at it and its exterior .wall. ll throughout is accessible to the air passing from passageway l2. In this connection it will be noted that the outer casing member iii of the head piece is spaced from the outer surface H by the air channel 59 so that the .air; from the passageway l2 may be circulated vcompletelyaround the sides of the head piece. In this Way,,therefore, when persons having their hair dried have the head piece mounted on theirheads and over their hair, hot air is blown throughthe hair to dry it.
In many types of construction, however, the hot -air. blown. through the hair has only one outlet, namely, down between the head piece and the'head and thus it blows over the face of the person being treated. This results in a very disagreeable condition. In some cases provision has been made to avoid this dimculty but this has necessitated a more complicated form of apparatus.
In the present case, means have been provided for withdrawing this air from the headpiece after it has passed through the hair so that it will not be impelled down over the face of the person being treated. This means is embodied in a simple form of apparatus requiring very little .added construction and no additional apparatus for .air withdrawal.
Upon referring to- Figure 3 particularly, it will be seen that the top of the head piece is formed with a passageway or duct 2i? which communicates with an air withdrawal channel 2 8, formed along the top of the casing and terminates at its rearward end, opening to the atmosphere. On the rearward end of the casing til is provided a damper arrangement including a plurality of substantially segmental openings 22 which may be screened as at 23 and controlled by a suitable damper or valve member 24 operated from the operating knob 25. It will be noted that the rear end of the casing which, as shown in Figure 3, is in the form of a closure cap 26 has three of the substantially segmental openings 22 spaced equi-distant while a fourth opening is closed by a. conduit member 21 which is provided with an extension or nozzle-like piece 28, designed to fit into the rearward opening of the channel 2| so that communication is established between this channel and the rearward end of passageway l2 behind the fan [3, consequently suction is established in passageway 2| and therefore hot air which is blown into the head piece I5 is thereafter removed through the passageway 2| and will not be propelled over the face of the person being treated.
In this way the apparatus provides for the removal of air from the head piece without the necessity of employing any additional suction apparatus while the construction, it will be noted, requires very little by way of addition to the conventional apparatus to effect this desired end. The arrangement is such that all the parts are compactly arranged so that the device may be built readily and produced at relatively low cost. Y
It will be apparent that any number of openings 22 may be employed in the end plate 26 or the end of the casing, while the openings are provided with the screen 23 of suitable mesh to avoid dust particles and the like. In the passageway 20, Screening 29 may be positioned,
while within the passageway I2 a baffle member or air deflector 30 may be employed to direct the air currents more efficiently to all parts of the head piece.
Various modifications may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the claims, and, therefore, the exact forms shown are to be taken as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense, and I desire that only such limitations shall be placed thereon as are imposed by the prior art or are specifically set forth in the appended claims.
We claim:--
