630,989. Rolling. SOC. ANON. DES ACIERIES ET FORGES DE FIRMINY. Jan. 28, 1947, No. 2614. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1946. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] In a rolling-mill the reduction ratio is maintained constant by automatic adjustment of the pass controlled by variations in the output and input speed ratio. Rollers 7 and 8 driven by the work-piece are coupled through gears 9 and 10 to a device 29, comprising oppositely rotating discs 11 and 12, driven by rollers 7 and 8 respectively whereby an electrical contact 18, 19 is closed or opened when the ratio of the peripheral speeds of the rolls 8 and 7 respectively falls below or rises above a predetermined value. The opening or closing of said contact serves to control a hydraulic relay which puts the pass adjusting devices into communication with high pressure mains if the ratio of the roller speeds is too low, and with the exhaust if the ratio is too high. In a modification the pass adjusting devices are of the screw or wedge types.
