Abstract

Sewage suspensions and sludge, particularly digested and activated sludge, are flocculated by basic chloride solutions of aluminium and/or iron. The solutions may be prepared by known methods and may be of any desired basicity containing, e.g., only 75 per cent. of the hydrochloric acid content of the normal salt. According to the Provisional Specification, solutions may also be prepared by electrolysis, containing only 10 per cent. of the hydrochloric acid content of the normal salt.
