Abstract
630,532. Clutches. LAVAUD, R. S. DE. Sept. 3, 1947, No. 24336. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1946. [Class 80 (ii)] In an electromagnetically operated friction clutch in which a disc 15 on one shaft is adapted to be engaged between a magnet 7 on the other shaft and an armature 9 secured for rotation with the magnet 7 but adapted for axial movement thereon, the friction surfaces of the disc or the magnet 7 are formed of alternating zones of a magnetic metal and a relatively soft anti-friction metal. Preferably these zones are formed by running an anti-friction alloy 14 into a spiral groove 13 formed in the friction surface.
