Abstract
629,661. Plug and ring gauges. BUISSON, P. Nov. 4, 1946, No. 32728. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1945. [Class 106 (ii)] To facilitate the interfitting of male and female elements, such as plug and ring gauges, one of these is provided near the entrance end with a toroidal resilient member which is seated in a groove, and stands proud of the working surface of the element. The plug gauge 2, Fig. 2, has a peripheral groove 3 in which is fitted a coil spring 4, the outer diameter of which is slightly greater than that of the gauging portion. Instead of having an integral groove for the spring, a washer and spacer element may be secured by a screw to the end of the gauge. The male gauge shown in Fig. 7 has .two coil springs 4, 4a secured at the end by circular washers. Instead of a coil spring the yielding member may comprise a hollow rubber or metal ring which may be filled with gas. In the case of a ring gauge, a groove is formed near the extrance end to receive a yielding member having an inner diameter which is smaller than the part to be gauged.
