Abstract
629,144. Motor-cycle crash guards. ONSLOW, C. G., VALE-. July 25, 1947, No. 19998. [Class 136 (i)] A crash guard 10 for a motor cycle comprises an open frame including a horizontal part 11 detachably secured by means of a bracket 14 to the front main down member 15 of the motor-cycle frame and having at each end depending portions 16 which extend downwardly and then substantially horizontally to a point in front of the rider's feet to protect the rider's knees and legs in the event of a crash, the lower ends 17 of the depending portions being provided with means for adjustably and detachably securing them to the motor-cycle frame at a position forwardly of the foot-rests, the adjustable attachment means enabling the crash guard to be fitted to varying types and makes of motor-cycles. As shown, the crash guard 10 is formed from a single length of metal tube and the lower ends 17 of the depending portions terminate in lugs 18 to which plates 20 are pivotally connected by pivot pins 19. The plates 20 have a series of holes 21 through any of which bolts may pass to secure the plates to the lower portion of the motor-cycle frame in an adjustable manner.
