404,900. Safety supports for motorcycles. WEIERMILLER, S., Wilkowischken, Post Spannegeln, Insterburg Land, Germany. Aug. 28, 1933, No. 23873. [Class 136 (i).] A safety device for motor-cycles comprises a crossbar rigidly attached to the front of the cycle frame and extending outwardly on both sides of the cycle so as to be adapted, in the event of a side crash, to support the cycle high enough from the ground to prevent injury to the rider by the cycle. A crossbar p is fixed to the front frame member a of the cycle and projects on both sides, its ends, which are adapted to contact with the ground in the event of a side crash, being flattened or rounded, the footrest f and the rear corner of the tool-box w also coming into contact with the ground on the cycle falling sideways. The crossbar p is attached to the frame by bolting, welding, &c., or by means of clamps, sockets, or brackets, and may be reinforced by struts extending to other parts of the frame. A layer of resilient material may be interposed between the crossbar p and the cycle frame at the point of attachment, and shock-absorbing devices may be incorporated in the crossbar itself. The crossbar may be utilized to support leg-shields.
