Abstract

1327193 Motor cycle frames P W BOTHWELL 28 Aug 1970 [3 June 1969] 27991/69 Heading B7E In a motor cycle frame, a bulkhead 13 connects a front section 14 which supports a steering fork shaft (not shown) for the front wheel 11 and a rear section 15 which carries a removable seat 16, the bulkhead 13 being constructed to provide a mounting for an engine and gear-box (not shown) and being constructed so as to be capable of extending above and on each side of the engine and gear-box. The bulkhead forms a leg shield on each side of the motor cycle and may have radiators (35) mounted on its forwardly directed face. Instead of being formed as an annular plate 17 with a rearwardly projecting support member 18 to which is secured pivots 24 for connecting swinging arms 23 for the rear wheel, the bulkhead may be in the form of an inverted U- shaped pate 13a. The front section 14 has slots 19 for the handlebars (not shown) and an aperture 20 for insertion of the engine and gearbox for mounting on the bulkhead. The rear section 15 has a pair of pivots 21 for mounting a shock absorber and spring unit 22 for the rear wheel 12. Either or both of the front and rear sections may contain bags or other containers for fuel or coolant. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the front and rear sections are formed from a plurality of tubular members. In each embodiment, the bulkhead can be formed from a pair of panels with stiffening and spacing ribs therdbetween.
