Abstract
A composition of matter comprises neoprene and a hydrocarbon ether of an anacardic material, which is defined as either cashew nut shell liquid or a distillate from such liquid. The ethers may be the methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, amyl, secondary propyl, secondary butyl, secondary amyl, tertiary butyl, tertiary amyl, phenyl, benzyl and allyl ethers of the material, and may be made by the methods described in U.S.A. Specifications 2,181,119 and 2,240,034. The distillate may be obtained by gas-, vapour- or steam-distillation under reduced pressure to give a product comprising a phenol having more than 13 carbon atoms. In examples the ethers are added to the neoprene on a heated mill together with zinc oxide, magnesium carbonate, stearic acid, carbon black and an accelerator, the product then being cured.
