Sept. 23, 1947, No. 25782 [Class 38(v)] To eliminate the manufacturing to fine limits of interlocking mechanism provided between the covers of a switch housing and 'the operating means for the switch, a lost-motion connection is incorporated in the operating means. The housing 10 has two compartments containing, respectively, a tumbler switch 11 and fuses 12 and enclosed by covers 13 pivoted at 14. Lugs 16 on the covers 13 co-operate with interlocking quadrants 19 pivoted on spindles 18 to the housing, the spindles having crank arms 20 coupled by a rod 21, such that when the operating handle 22 is moved to the open position, slots 26 in the quadrants 19 come opposite the lugs 16 and the covers 13 can be opened. The engagement of the lugs 16 in the slots 26 prevents closing of the switch 11 by the handle 22 when a cover is open, and when the handle is in the closed position, arcuate peripheries 24 of the quadrants 19 come beneath the lugs 16 and prevent opening of the covers. The spindle 18 associated with the switch compartment has an eccentric 27 co-operating with ears 28 of an arm 29 pivoted at 33 and having a forked end 30 engaging the switch dolly 31. The distance between the ears 28 is greater than the diameter of the eccentric 27, and the eccentric is so positioned on the spindle 18 relatively to the quadrants 19, that, when the handle 22 is moved to the " off " position, the switch is first opened, Fig..4, and then further movement of the handle brings the slots 26 beneath the lugs 16, but due to the lostmotion between the eccentric 27 and ears 28, the dolly 31 is not moved back to close the switch.
