Abstract

627,645. Machinery guards. PIRIE, W. J. Nov. 29, 1947, No. 12308. [Class 80 (iv)] A printing or like machine having co-operating rollers 6, 7 is provided with a guard device in the form of a pivoted guard plate 2, with a resilient edging strip 3 extending approximately radially to one of the rollers and shielding the nip between the rolls from the operator's hands. Secured to the plate 2 is an arm 15 carrying a lever 8 adapted to operate a switch 10 in the circuit of the driving motor so that in the event of the operator's hands contacting the strip the plate 2 is rocked'and the switch 10 opened to stop the drive. A pawl 11 on the switch 10 is adapted to lock and retain the lever 8 in the position with the switch off. The arm 15 may be releasably locked to the one-pivot of the plate 2 so that the plate can be moved clear of the roller when desired for servicing operations. A locking bolt 25 with a knob 27 at the other end of the plate is adapted to engage either a slot 29 to allow the necessary movement for operating the switch 10 or to engage a hole 30 to hold the guard plate in the clear or servicing position.
