Abstract

1,255,119. Spindle drive. HAMEL G.m.b.H. 5 Aug., 1970 [11 Sept., 1969], No. 37772/70. Heading DID. A spindle 22 which is mounted so as to be pivoted into and out of engagement with a driving belt is mounted on a pivoted arm 18, the spindle axis being parallel to the pivoting axis. A resilient member (spring 26, Fig. 1) urges the pivoted arm into a working position with the spindle wharve contacting the driving belt, as shown in Fig. 2. A securing device 12, 52 is arranged to secure the spindle in this working position and in a neutral position with the spindle wharve spaced from the driving belt. The securing device comprises an apertured plate 12 and at least one contact piece 42 which can move around the inside face of the aperture. The contact piece 42 is carried on a stop member 32 which is rotatable between two end positions, and can be held in at least one thereof by an overcentre device 52, the two end positions corresponding to the working and neutral positions of the spindle. As shown, when it is required to disengage the spindle from the drive belt the operator turns handle 58 to the left of Fig. 2, against the pressure of overcentre device 52 so that roller 42 emerges from the notch 56 and eventually roller 42' enters notch 56' thereby disengaging the spindle. The overcentre device 52 retains the spindle in this position.
