Abstract
627,628. Hair waving appliances. DESCADEILLAS, J. S. Feb. 14, 1947, Nos. 4366 and 4367. Convention dates, Feb. 25, 1946 and Jan. 8, 1947. [Class 131] In a method of preparing hair for a cold permanent waving process, in which each curl is set while still on the curler by the application to it of a treating solution, the hair is wound on a curler and a clearance established between the curler and the curl to facilitate the application of the treating fluid to all parts of the curl. As shown the curler comprises semi-cylindrical shells 1, 2 perforated at 3 and interconnected by overlapped end-pieces 4, 5, 8 and 9 slotted at 6, 7, 10, and 11 respectively to receive sliding members 12, 17 which have lateral projections 14 engaging selectively in notches 15, 16 in the edges of the shells. The notches 16 are smaller than the projection 14 and, in use, the shells are forced apart by withdrawal of the members 12, 17, the hair being coiled on the expanded curler and held in place by an elastic band 22. The members are then pushed inwards to engage the projections 14 in the notches 15 and reduce the cross-section of the curler so that liquid applied from inside and outside the curler readily reaches all parts of the curl.
