[Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A flyer of the type having a substantially cylindrical body portion comprising separate legs connected by a ring at the bottom and eyelets for conducting the yarn to its circumference and inwardly to the bobbin at the bottom has a projecting lip provided on each leg in such a position that the yarn can be passed within the lip in its travel down the flyer. The legs b may be straight, as shown in Fig. 5, or diagonal and the eyelets o, p may be lined with an insert of hard material, such as a tungsten carbide alloy. The lips q may extend continuously into the base ring c or break off above the ring, as shown in Fig. 2. Instead of one lip two or more may be provided, and the flyer may be tapered or expanded at the bottom. The flyer may be made from a stamping, or by die-casting, preferably using a light alloy, or the body portion may be made from a cylinder whose walls are partly cut away to leave legs (see Group XXII).
