Abstract

1,148,403. Bobbins. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. 25 July, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966], No. 34456/66. Heading B8M. A bobbin for use in spinning or twisting frames has a bore defined by a metal tube 2 having its end 12 located within a recess 13 in the base of the bobbin, the recess being fitted with a protective ring 15 having a bore substantially equal in diameter to that of the tube so as to cover the end of the tube. The ring 15 may be resilient and held in position by friction. The ring is preferably V-shaped in crosssection, one limb 18 defining a collar engaging the wall of the recess and the other limb 16 defining a lip which tapers inwardly to the mouth of the tube. The collar portion 18 may constitute a plurality of spaced prongs for easy insertion and removal of the ring. The ring is preferably shaped to leave a gap between the ring and the end of the tube when the ring is in position, a circumferential ridge 19 may be provided in the collar portion 18 to engage a similar groove in the recess wall, to prevent axial movement of the ring during use.
