Abstract

627,341. Self-loading wagons. LETOURNEAU, Inc., R. G. March 13, 1947, No. 7068. Convention date, April 9, 1946. [Class 78 (iv)] A vehicle of the low bed type designed for carrying pulp-wood timber is loaded by an arch boom 9 which is pivoted at 12 to the vehicle and is caused to swing in a vertical longitudinal plane from the position shown in dotted lines to that shown in full lines by means of a pair of forward pull cables 17 and a pair of rearward pull cables 20. The forward cables 17 attached at 18 pass over direction changing pulleys 19 and are wound oppositely on drum 15 of the electric winch unit 14. The rearward cables 20, attached at 21, pass over a direction changing pulley 22 and then over compensating pulleys 23 and 24, which avoid slackening in all positions, and over direction changing pulleys 25, finally being wound on drum 16 of the winch 14 each oppositely to the corresponding forward pull cable so that as one pair pays out the other winds in. The hoist cable 26, terminating in a hook 28, passes over direction changing pulleys 27, which are swingably mounted on a horizontal axis, and 29, being wound on drum 30 of electric winch 31. Both winches are reversible.
