Abstract
627,010. Variable-pitch propellers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and KESTELL, T. A. Sept. 25, 1945, No. 24899. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXIV] In a pitch-changing mechanism for propellers, relative rotation between the rotating shafts 20 and 25 is produced by the relative rotation of a pair of annular gears 23, 26 engaged by planet gears 19, 24 carried by the shafts 20, 25 and meshing with the gear 36 on the driving shaft 8. For pitch changing, the motor 61 is energized to rotate the annulus 26, thus giving the shaft 25 an angular displacement relative to the shaft 20, this rotates a bevel gear 62 to rotate a bevel segment 63 to turn the propeller blade 44 through the desired angle.
