Abstract

626,887. Magnetic separators. DINGS MAGNETIC SEPARATOR CO. Oct. 30, 1946, No. 32241. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1940. [Class 72] A magnetic-separator having a series of electro-magnets 15 disposed along and adjacent to the top surface of the lower reach of an endless belt 20 and a hopper 41 disposed below such reach for receiving a liquid (e.g. water) into which is fed via chute 23 a mixture of magnetic and non-magnetic material, and which liquid is in contact with and floods an under-surface area of said reach, is provided with a shallow trough 75 having a series of liquid jets 25 therein directed against the under surface of said lower reach and having its bottom in close parallel relation to an upwardly moving inclined portion of the lower reach and extending from a point between the liquid level 48 to a point above it. Further liquid jets 24 may be supplied together with baffles 65 and 72 and a second hopper 42. Non- magnetic material is collected in the hoppers 41, 42, the magnetic material after being dewatered by pressure of a resilient roller 78 being collected at 44. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 11, the trough 96 with jets 24, 25 is more extensive whilst the feed chute 23 is continued as a shallow trough 95 without jets, the non-magnetic fraction being collected in the trough 97. A space may be formed between the lower face of the electro-magnets and the upper face of the lower reach of the belt 20 into which lubricating liquid may be introduced.
